Robotics and computer coding are some of the newest trends in classrooms across the United States. Introducing students to robotics and computer code is one of the goals I have in the STEM lab at my K-8 school. I want to use the Ozobots to help students learn about these tech topics.
The students at my school are all military kids, whose families serve our country!
Part of belonging to a military family means moving every few years. When students come to my STEM lab, I want to make each lesson count, since those students and their families could be relocating within the next week or month. Students enjoy the STEM lab so much, and using robotics and writing computer code have quickly become some of their favorite activities. In the STEM lab, I meet with students in grades 3 - 8, so the Ozobots would be used by the majority of the students on our campus.
My Project
Imagine learning to code with paper and markers, before ever even touching a computer or tablet. The Ozobots can be used that way! So, very young students can begin coding, and more importantly understand coding, before they write code online. I am requesting 6 Ozobots, so students can work together, in partners, to write a code for their bot. With 6 Ozobots, I can have 12 students at a time working with robotics, while the rest of the students work on another activity. Then, students can rotate, so that each student gets to touch an Ozobot while they are in the STEM lab.
Donations to my project will improve my classroom because a funded project will supply needed materials for my students.
The kids will not need to wait quite as long for a robot to become available. Instead, there will be enough Ozobots for 12 students at a time in the STEM lab. The Ozobot will improve the daily lives of students because they will be getting actual hands-on practice with coding and robotics.
