My students need alphabet work - sound tubs/storage racks and dough stampers to complete our ABC station with tactile materials for differentiation.

My Students

I'll bet you don't remember learning how to read. The building blocks of reading are the ABC's. My Kindergarten and 1st grade students are just starting out and need your help with ABC materials to read, write and practice phoneme segmentation.

Our K-8 school is located in a very rural, farming community, with approximately 50 students enrolled.

We have very supportive families, but you can only ask for so much support before monies run dry. Sports, farming, FFA, and 4H, keep our families active in the community. This also means either our parents are busy working in the city or keeping farmers' hours in the fields. Our graduating 8th graders choose 1 of 5 high schools to attend between two counties. However, our school is required to pay each of these students tuition as they are considered out-of-district students. Our funding has been cut in all resources, due to state budget cuts. Yet, our school has received Missouri Distinction in Performance Award every year awarded for the past 11 years, including this year. I firmly believe good beginnings make great students.

My Project

The resources requested will give my students in Kindergarten and 1st grade the opportunity to practice phonemes, pre-reading and storytelling using these tactile ABC materials. The materials will be used in stations that the students use throughout the day for literacy purposes. The dough stampers will help with students that need that need for extra tactile work. The sound tubs will add additional practice in phoneme segmentation. Learning these skills in Kindergarten and 1st grade is KEY to becoming a proficient student in the upper grades.

By donating to this project, you will be supporting boys and girls in the basics of reading and writing.

You will help make a difference because neither the school nor I have more funds to purchase these resources for our students. Please help me in giving our future adults the literacy-based beginning they deserve.
