My Students

Today’s students are tomorrow’s leaders. My job is to create tomorrow's leaders with rigorous, real-world issues curriculum loaded with hands-on inquiry, open-ended exploration, and collaborative teamwork.

I teach first grade in Florida.

My school has a very high percentage of students who receive free or reduced price lunch. Our students come to us with diverse backgrounds. Some of my students come to school with few background experiences and lack motivation to do well in school while others are well advanced in academics and are highly motivated to learn. I work hard to create a safe, family-like atmosphere in my classroom. We follow the Golden Rule and my students are encouraged to make the world a better place on a daily basis, no matter how small the deed. Our school is full inclusion which means special education students (low and high performing) are fully included in regular ed classrooms.

My Project

My students need a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Bundle which contains materials to design their own raft, create a leak proof roof, build a parachute, and many more engaging projects. These projects were specially developed to introduce kids to the STEM design process as a way to solve problems, and students will plan, build, test and then improve their designs until they are successful. The projects also focus on the blended learning environment and show students how the scientific method can be applied to everyday life. They teach computational thinking and focus on the real world applications of problem solving. These STEM projects also offer opportunities to help students learn the kinds of things that people who get things done need to know: problem solving, communication, skills in accessing and using information, how to be self-managing, and how to work with other people. STEM offers students the opportunity to learn what it means to be productive.

The resources will allow me to build a hands-on inquiry based instruction for my first grade class.

It will create a solid foundation for the beginning of each child's future success in the world! It is my hope that these kits will pique students' interest, leaving them wanting to investigate STEM fields and pursue STEM occupations. Your donations will affect my current students giving them access to fresh and new building activities. ALL of these activities can be reused every year. Thank you
