My students need literacy materials that will help them reach their educational goals. These materials will help my students practice and master many crucial concepts.
Every day in my classroom, my students strive to do their best. No matter what academic level a child is on, each one is excited about practicing, learning, and applying our first grade concepts. Our favorite quote is: Mistakes are proof that you're trying. My students truly embrace this!
My first graders are confident, excited learners.
They are willing to try new things and jump into new content. Many of my students qualify for Free/Reduced Lunch. Over 60% of our school's 900+ students qualify for Free/Reduced Lunch. Even though many of the socioeconomic status' of our students is low, their academic abilities are anything but. The students of our school strive to be their best. They don't give up and fight against any and all odds.
My Project
My students will use these reading/literacy materials to practice, master, and apply several crucial literacy skills. The "Fiction & Nonfiction Paired Passages" will help the students with comparing and contrasting fiction and nonfiction texts. The "Using Context Clues Listening Center" will also help them with using context clues while reading. The "Reading Comprehension Games Library" will be a fun and engaging way for the students to practice and apply their comprehension skills. We will use the materials in several settings: small groups led by the teacher, small groups that are student led, and independently. These resources will provide my students with learning opportunities that will also build their confidence in reading skills. A portion of my students are English Language Learners and are reading below grade level. These resources can be used as excellent supplement materials to support them and help them become on-grade level readers.
Donations to this project will help give my students access to literacy materials.
They will also help the students practice and apply crucial reading/literacy skills. This will help them as life long learners, building the necessary skills and confidence they'll need in the future.
