Building Collaboration, Creativity, and Communication
My students need Lego Education materials, such as StoryStarter and Fairytale, and a VGA adaptor, to help support their writing and speaking and listening skills.

My students love learning and sharing what they have learned with others. Many of them have not yet discovered the power of writing as a way to share ideas. These materials could unlock that door.
I am privileged to teach in a suburban school with approximately 500 students.
Our population is currently changing and there is a socioeconomic divide. I am constantly striving to provide equitable experiences for all of my students.
The children I teach are energetic, creative, and they love exploring, building, and making things. Many of them struggle with reading, math, and executive skills. Writing is often the most challenging subject for my students, as it requires so many different parts of the brain.
My Project
The Lego Story Starter Kit and additional Lego Education set would truly revolutionize literacy instruction in my classroom. I envision my students working together to summarize and retell stories, using these materials to visualize what they want to write in response to prompts, and collaborating together to create movies using technology to present to their peers.
They will be able to learn while participating in an activity that they love- building. Not only will they be creating scenes from stories or frameworks for writing, but they will also be building UNDERSTANING of concepts that have previously been too abstract for them to explain or visualize.
While working together, they will improve their skills in collaboration and communication. They will also showcase responsible digital citizenship and technology skills by using classroom resources to record their learning process and share it with others using the VGA adapter with the iPad and interactive whiteboard.
The Lego sets and VGA adapter would allow me to create lessons where the students can collaborate, innovate, and enjoy processes such as writing about reading and composing narratives, and then share their creative experience with their peers.
This will be a powerful method for them to learn abstract processes through one of their favorite activities- building. I am excited to see them discover the power of words while completing an activity where they already feel skilled and confident.
