My students need ceramic tools for clay projects: contour tools and wooden tools to smooth projects, rolling pins for making slabs of clay, and tools for decoration.
I teach middle school art and my students have been asking to work with clay since the beginning of the year! We are working on a clay project right now and just using our hands and some forks from the dollar store. Students are struggling smoothing out their projects and need some better supplies!
Our school serves a wide variety of students.
Some of our middle school students were lucky enough to have art at their elementary schools, and other students are taking art for the first time. They enjoy art, and like using new materials in their creative process. Our school is very supportive of the arts, and would like our program to grow and reach more students!
My Project
These materials will help students with clay based art projects. Starting next year, we will be offering an art class with its focus on clay projects! Students will learn about ceramic art from around the world in this exciting new class. We will need supplies for building projects, helping students to smooth out their work, and brushes for surface decoration. Wooden tools and contour tools will help students to smooth out their projects, especially in places that are hard to reach, and rolling pins will allow students to roll slabs for slab construction with clay. Sgraffito tools and brushes will be used for surface decoration, and heavy duty sponges are a necessity for cleaning up! Students will use these supplies to make creative high quality, expressive artwork.
Starting a ceramic studio from scratch is a huge but worthwhile undertaking.
It offers students who don't like drawing and painting an opportunity to express themselves and create artwork in a way that suits them best. It also gives students who have already taken art and studied painting and drawing a chance to continue with art and explore new, fun, and challenging things! All students deserve a chance to study ceramics and learn about an art medium shared throughout the world.
