Build A Classroom Library

My Students

Do you remember reading that book that made you never want to stop reading? I have challenged my students to become better readers than they are by the end of the year. Choice in reading is crucial to becoming a better reader.

Our classroom is an atmosphere of exciting learning and discovery.

Students are asked to think outside their normal boxes and try things they would never try without the supportive group of people that are in the same class. They all are working to become better readers by the end of the year. With an expansion to our classroom library, they will have books to choose from that have been recommended by their peers as well as the most popular books. My students have pushed themselves to get excited about books and, by adding to our classroom library, they will have more books to choose from as well as books to use for their book studies.

My Project

My students need a collection of books for our classroom library to be used for personal reading, small group book studies and book clubs. My students will use the books added to our classroom library to work toward the personal goal of becoming a better reader not only with improved comprehension but also with better speed. In order to gain in their reading ability, students should have books that keep their interest and "speak to them." With these books, students will also be able to work in small groups to study a book and the impact that book has made on them. They will also study the parts to a story and literature tricks and, through this study, they will be able to "see" good writing which will, in turn, help them become better writes themselves.

This project will make a very large difference as it is helping create a classroom library which currently does not exist.

We are in need of books since books have not been ordered because there is not a budget for classroom libraries. By having books that are of interest to them as well as quality writing, students will be impacted positively and this can ignite their love for reading.
