Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach art in an up and coming section of the South Bronx. My students are top scholars who love art. Currently, my school offers drawing and painting but I want to diversify our offerings. I am tired of art cuts and I want to build something that is great, but I have a limited budget! Please help!

Art truly can be connected with any subject and we try to provide our students with a cutting edge art program.
At our school, we prepare our scholars through rigorous programs that provide them with a foundation that will allow them to succeed in and graduate from college. Our unique arts-infused curriculum, emphasis on social development and integration of diverse cultural opportunities augments learning and broadens horizons.
Our dreams are big; and we want the best for our students, but our budget is limited. An etching press would enable us to teach our students a new medium. Our school is located in a section of the Bronx where test grades are chronically low, and we are trying to change that! Our students are INCREDIBLY TALENTED and take very good care of the resources given to them. They inspire me every day that I teach them!
My Project
An etching press would enable us to teach our students a new medium. I truly believe that each person has an artistic medium that "makes sense" to them, but often schools fail to offer a rich variety of offerings in art due to budgetary reasons.
I love to teach art and I want to build the greatest art program in the world. Over the course of my twelve year career, I have witnessed significant art cutbacks. Artists have always needed patrons and the users of DonorsChoose are our patrons. We are thankful and we want to build something great!
Even in New York City, arguably the arts capital of the world, there are a small number of schools with etching presses. Printmaking is a relevant medium in contemporary art and has been in existence for hundreds of years. Colleges and Graduate Programs offer printmaking as an offering and I want my students to have a head start!
We need an Etching Press because we do not want to be an average art program.
We want to be the best. The patrons of DonorsChoose have already given us 40 sketchbooks and a set of professional colored pencils. I am advocating for more because I believe in my students and I want our art program to be the best. Our budget is tiny but we do our best to be great!
