Remember sitting on math class, hearing the screeching of the chalk on the chalkboard, flipping open to another page in your math book? There are now so many new opportunities for students to become more engaged in math class.
The way students are engaged in the classroom is changing.
There are so many new ways to share material, ways to enrich the learning experience. Bringing technology into the classroom provides an amazing opportunity for students to expand their learning.
Remember sitting in math class and thinking, what will I ever need this for? Connecting students with the math content is such an important part of making sure that all students are able to be successful.
We are a sixth grade math and science class in a rural town in Massachusetts. Our best way of learning is by reteaching the material to others. In creating math videos and posting them online, we're not only able to always review the material in an exciting way but are able to share our knowledge with others.
My Project
My students need an iPod Touch to be continuously engaged in math class. As a way to differentiate learning, we often use centers in the classroom. Providing us with iPods to be used in a center will open up so many doors by providing students the opportunity for hands on learning and review experiences. There are so many amazing resources available in the Apple App store that can be used to build an even stronger math foundation for these students as they move forward.
Students will be able to play, create, and share which provides a more authentic learning experience. I hope you'll consider sharing with us as we work towards building the most successful classroom environment we can.
This project is so important to us as we're trying to add technology to the classroom. Students have become so used to hands on activities at home that it needs to also be brought into the classroom as well.
The cases and screen protectors that are involved will help keep our materials in one piece!
This project is so important to us because we're always trying to find new ways to be engaged during math class.
With all the great resources available, we want to move away from simply working out of a textbook to being actively engaged in what we are working on. The iPod touches will provide us with new opportunities and experiences that we weren't able to previously have.
