My Students
Do you remember the first book you fell in love with as a child? The book that had you reading for hours because you were dying to see how it ends? My students have not yet found that passion for reading. They have not yet discovered books that capture their imagination, but they will.
My second grade students are smart, fun, and eager to learn.
They come to school with such positive attitudes yet they come from poor backgrounds with limited supply and support. Our students might not get the support they need to succeed in their community, but they are supported in the classroom. Our responsibility as educators to support their need to learn and introduce them to a variety of books is just the beginning. With your help the sky is the limit.
My Project
In our book club students will break up into small groups where they will choose books to read and discuss their thoughts on each book. Students will build conversation and social skills using these books. Not only do my students struggle with reading but also with social skills. I believe using these fun books in small groups will help them become better readers while building social skills.
It is very important for children to begin reading at an early age as it helps them succeed in different areas of learning. It is my goal to introduce as many books as possible to my students as we spend a lot of time reading during the school day.
My project is important because it will help my students become better readers and build social skills through group interactions.
It will also help them to find that special book that will capture their imagination just like you did when you were a child.
My students need books that will bring excitement for reading.
