Who wants to sit in class and be still all day? No one! Not even the teacher. My students need movement. With 21 students in the morning and 18 in the afternoon, our students are fidgeting, wiggling, and not focused. Exercise balls can help us stay focused while engaging our mind and body!
We live in a rural community where most of our students receive free or reduced price lunch.
Our students do not always have the opportunities that those from other counties may. As a school division, we do our best to reach our students, keep them engaged, and help them become the best they can be. I have an amazing group of 39 students total. My students are active, playful, and full of energy. As a student, they need to move and we should encourage it. By using the exercise balls in the classroom, our students will discover things about fitness, focus, and becoming more engaged with what is being taught.
My Project
My goal as a teacher is to help all of my students learn, no matter what. By using exercise balls at our guided reading station, all students will have the opportunity to sit on the balls. These balls will take place of our chairs to help our students engage their body and mind. Research has shown that exercise balls in the classroom helps students focus. For that student who can't stop moving, this ball will help them tremendously. Although not all students need a ball to sit on, those who do need one will have the opportunity to use one and learn different ways to help them become focused. This will also help those students who need to constantly move, fidget, wobble, or bounce.
