Mrs. Owen from Richmond VA is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a printer and four VTech Tablets.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
A typical day in our classroom is filled with smiles, anticipation, energy and manipulatives! My students and I are always move around and have hands on activities in front of us! My feeling is that if I am antsy as the teacher then they are antsy as little kids!
My students are always greeted with a hug in the morning.
Then together we do a firecracker clap and get excited about the day. We have limited equipment in our room because we are a very inner-city school that seems to have been pushed to the side, but inside of my classroom we are amazing! My classroom is full of students from the poorest of neighborhoods, where life always a struggle. My students are always friendly, well mannered, and as positive are they could be! My school is an inner-city school where crime is more common then not. We have bullet holes in the windows, police are always present in the halls, and fighting among students is a way of life. Considering what type of home environment my students have I have one rule: always getting a hug when you start the day, always get a hug when your finish the day. Most of my students do not receive affection at home, and knowing that I am able to warm their hearts just a little is an amazing feeling. My classroom is their safe haven, sanctuary, and calm down room. I can honestly say that will all of the things my students go through at home; fighting, guns, gangs, drug deals, etc. they come into my classroom and are grounded, level headed, and the sunshine of my day.
In our classroom we need manipulatives! We use our hands for everything whether it is math, science, reading, or social studies! Technology is also a way to use manipulatives, and a tablet is an amazing way to do this! In order to move forward in our classroom and in the future my students would greatly benefit from a printer that will allow my students and parents to see the progress that their child is making, it would also allow me, as a teacher, to find and create activities for my students as well! As for the tablets, well they would be used as much as possible! Technology is key to our young students success and being able to allow this tool in the classrooms on a daily basis is wonderful! The tablets would be used individually and in whole groups. They would be used at the teacher station, with classroom tutors, and as a reward for hard workers! They will learn the power of sharing, earning rewards, the excitement of sound and touch, as well as the tool of responsibility.
These donations will improve our classroom in an indescribable way!
We will be able to print progress reports and activities for parents! As the teacher, I will be able to print the students activities to take home.
