My students need a leveled library appropriate for their reading level, abilities, and interests including books like The Hunger Games, Harry Potter, and Artemis Fowl.
"A world without literature is dead". This quote seems to ring true in so many classrooms across America. I inherited a reading classroom this year with very few books for students to read. I have added to it with my own money, but cannot afford all of the high interest books students crave.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds, but one thing is common; they are a majority of struggling readers.
The majority of my students are ESL and struggle to read a lot of texts we teach. This causes them to dislike reading. They are a great bunch of kids that enjoy coming to school and I hope to offer them the chance to read more of what they enjoy. My school is on a tight budget as am I. I was able to purchase some books on my own with my own money, but would love to have more books for students to enjoy in the classroom.
My Project
My students will be able to use these books to find an interest in an love for reading. They will be able to check these books out of the classroom library to enjoy in free time throughout the day. The students will also be using these books to improve their reading skills. As mentioned previously, I mainly teach ESL and low level readers. My goal is to find a book that each and every one of them enjoys to read.
My project will make a difference because it will help kids that normally do not get to read things they enjoy.
This will improve my classroom because the joy of reading will radiate within the walls. All students will be able to read a book that is valuable an meaningful to them
