Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Practice makes?" "Progress!" I am all about high energy, and high rigor work! We need to be challenging ourselves constantly in order to make growth. LET'S GET TO WORK!
I work in a Title 1 low socio-economic school with 75%+ English as a Second Language speakers.
What does this mean? I have the toughest, but sweetest kids! I also have the hardest, but most rewarding job! We need to work hard to accomplish our goals in reading - more books will get us there!
My Project
We will use the "Face to Face with Wolves" books by delving deep into the standards to study reading.
I will first introduce this topic by focusing on fairy tales with wolf figures. What kind of characters are they? How do the different characters vary throughout cultures and versions of stories?
Next, we will study the book a section at a time. The author uses amazing photographs and captions in this story. What do they teach the reader? Because this book is divided into chapters, it will be easy for students to focus and understand main idea. Students will write in response to questions to be able to understand the nonfiction genre. This will immerse my students in complex vocabulary and texts which will help them conquer the End of Grade test in third grade, get to 4th grade, get to high school, and beyond!
I want my students to love reading.
It is my job to fully prepare them for their future. I need more reading materials in order to do this! Each student will be able to explore and use their own individual copies of this book to help them further their understanding of nonfiction texts. The amazing photographs of Canada and Northern United States' wolves will introduce them into this animal's lives and another part of the world. Let's get them reading!
