My Students

My students love to read! They eagerly check out all the books that arrive from the library every month. While the library is a wonderful resource, my class does not yet have a set of books organized by reading level.

My students are in grades kindergarten through 8th grade, and they have a wide range of disabilities including autism, emotional behavior disorders, learning disabilities, and language impairment.

As you can imagine, the reading level in my class varies as widely as my students' ages.

My Project

Students build fluency and comprehension skills by reading books that are at their level. This way, they can concentrate on comprehension instead of struggling to decode unfamiliar words. A set of books organized by reading level will help my students read independently without the help of an adult. It will give them the opportunity to practice their reading skills while getting inspired about learning about the world around them.

A nonfiction leveled classroom library will motivate my students to read more.

It will help them in becoming confident readers, and in improving their reading and comprehension skills.
