Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is filled with diverse learners. Every student in my classroom has unique needs and interests. The majority of my students are considered English Language Learners that come from low-income families. Yet, many of them are passionate and eager about learning.
My classroom is filled with diverse learners.
Every student in my classroom has unique needs and interests. The majority of my students are considered English Language Learners that come from low-income families. Yet, many of them are passionate and eager about learning. So many of them come into the classroom and quickly get out their independent reading book. Seeing this makes my day, I would love for all of my students to love reading. Unfortunately, some of my students haven't developed a love for reading. I'm hoping that through our Interactive Read Aloud students can see how enjoyable reading is. I would love for all of my students to be avid readers. In order for me to instill a love for reading I need to provide my students the right books. I want to make sure that my students have books that are 'Just Right' for them, meaning that they are choosing the topics that they care about and that the books are at their independent level.
My Project
The books from this grant will be used during independent reading time. Students will be able to go and check out books of their choice and at their level. I hope that they become 'nose in the book' readers. They will be reading independently for forty minutes working to become stronger readers. While reading independently they will be working on the strategies that they've been taught during our mini-lesson, small group instruction, or one-on-one conferences. Every student has an individual reading goal and these books will help them work towards their reading goal. Some readers might be working on character analysis, fluency, setting, making predictions, asking questions, author's craft, etc.
Getting new books for our classroom library will bring so much joy to the children in my classroom.
Students will have more choices when book shopping and our classroom library won't look so empty and sad. My struggling readers will be the ones who would benefit the most from this grant because I have a limited amount of books available for them.
