My Students

I teach some feisty freshmen and teaching dynamically helps keep them on their toes while in my room! They love lab days so it is fun to grab their attention with them. The best part however is it creates lasting memories that they can draw upon when tested and later on in life!

My freshmen act too cool for school but they absolutely love learning cool stuff.

They get drawn in to lessons when I teach them bits of trivia or odd pieces of information. Their natural curiosity gets the better of them and before I know it, they've learned almost everything they need to just by asking me questions! My students learn best when they want to know and have activities, labs and manipulative a to experiment with.

My Project

I'm ordering two different kits for several days worth of instruction. The first kit is called "what seed is it". Students will explore different kinds of seeds, identify them and learn how the seeds are dispersed. Most of the seeds come from plants that don't grow around here so this offers a neat opportunity to see new and different kinds of seeds! The second kit is a hydroponics kit that students grow plants in without soil. What is really neat about it is there are several different experiments that students can choose from. They can manipulate the types and amounts of fertilizer or how warming the fertilizer affects the plants. They could experiment with the amount of aeration of the water as well. These types of activities will help them learn about the diversity and complexity of plants. More importantly though, I hope they learn that nature is in a very delicate balance; a balance that must be protected.

The students will be so excited to experiment with plants!

They've been learning about plants for many years but these types of activities take that previous knowledge to a whole other level of understanding plants and their roles in ecosystems.
