My Students

Welcome! Our classroom was first established for children with special needs and has grown to include typical peers as well. We are a curious bunch of four-year-olds from many different backgrounds and ALL of us have an overwhelming desire to explore nature!

I am fortunate enough to have been designated a pilot classroom where my students will be able to experience learning from a different perspective: outside the four walls of our classroom.

The goal of this project is to help children and their families develop an engaging, hands-on connection with the outside world where nature is an integral, essential part of our daily learning. Many children spend the majority of their time confined inside classrooms. Most people are unaware of the degree of positive impact that structured outdoor activities have on children's development, including their health, self-concept, and future school success.

My Project

Sand and water centers provide an area where children can safely experiment with water and its properties and provide a different tactile experience when working with sand. The hands-on activities associated with sand and water allow children to develop and internalize an understanding of the physical laws of nature. By being able to observe, explore and record how materials change with the addition of water, they will learn about transformation of objects and understand the differences between solids and liquids.
