My students need the F and G contra bass bars for use in our music classroom. Students are in charge of their music making and this would add a great foundational sound.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Have you ever had an experience that had you feeling like you were on top of the world? That is what students who will play these instruments will feel like. It's magical, musical and motivational.
Our students are curious about world music and cultures and enjoy a hands-on approach to learning and creating music in our school.
Our school is a Spanish/English bilingual, dual-immersion school of 315 kids and they have music class two times per week for 30-minutes each time. The kids are in grades K-5 and come from diverse backgrounds. We have a high percentage of low-income families and we are also a 70% minority population school.
My Project
There are many different components to a full set of bass bars and we are currently at the start of our journey building our set. Currently, we have the largest bar, C and are looking to add F and G with this project. The addition of F and G will allow our students to have immediate access to playing a bass part to thousands of songs as the C-F-G combination is also known and the common I-IV-V chord progression.
Yes, students will know what those roman numerals mean in musical language and even will learn how to compose their own music within many forms and genres of music - including jazz. These bass bars would be used by all students and over the course of many years. With great care of the instruments, we might even get a decade or more of use out of them which would mean thousands of students' lives will have been impacted through this project. We are looking forward to actively making music and creating student leaders in the process from kindergarten through 5th grade.
Music tends to be a magical subject for many students.
Perhaps it is because they are letting their inner self out through creativity. Perhaps they are asked to lead a song and they made the realization that they could actually do it and are finally believing in themselves because of it. But in our music class, we make magical and motivational moments happen through musical moments. We have a standard of excellence in our room that is only achievable through our motto of "try your best."
