Help us obtain some basic supplies so that we can concentrate on learning and not on hunting and begging for necessities.
Our middle school is located in a large city in northern California.
The 6th, 7th, and 8th graders that comprise the class have a variety of severe disabilities. Half of my students use wheel chairs and most have cerebral palsy. All have significant cognitive impairments. Life can be difficult for them as they work to overcome the barriers that separate them from their peers.
My Project
The students have a wide range of academic, health, and social issues. The gloves and Purell will be used to ensure the health of students and staff. We use gloves when we change diapers and come in contact with bodily fluids. We need to be very careful; some of the students are medically fragile, and it is important that we do all we can to avoid illnesses. The ink is for our printer. We are not supplied with appropriate texts, so we need to be creative. I obtain materials from websites such as EdHelper, but the materials need to be printed. Most of my students live somewhat isolated existences which do not allow them to acquire proper social skills. The game that I am requesting, Friendship Island, is a social skills teaching tool that will, hopefully, assist in their personal development. Last year we had a big exercise ball in our classroom. The kids loved it. It was calming and therapeutic. But it was borrowed and not returned which is why we are asking for another one.
Life is difficult for my students.
Not having basic materials and useful learning materials makes it even more difficult. Please help us. The students will be greatly appreciative, and you will be making a difference in their lives.
