My students need baseballs, gloves, and catcher's mitts to practice and build the needed skills for games. They also need a baseball practice package and training balls to improve practices.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are from an area where baseball is new. Most of the students play soccer but some want to learn new sports. To do this they must have basic equipment. The interest in baseball is growing and they want to have a competitive team. This means we need equipment for practice.
My students are various ages from 7th grade through high school for clinics.
My team is high school level. They live in a low economic area in an area of phoenix that has a high drop out rate, teen pregnancy rate, and high teen incarceration rate. Having students learn a sport, teaches them how to work with others even if they don't agree. How to push through things that are hard and not give up or give in. It build confidence and confident students excel in classes. Excelling in school, is the most effective way to keep them off the streets, from getting pregnant, and out of jail. This area has a lot of gangs, it is essential that they find connective relationships with others their age in a safe environment to keep them out of that situation.
My Project
We will use the mitts for players who cannot afford them, it is always good to have extra. I need a catchers mitt for my pitchers to practice. The rest is for batting. Without a tee and net and practice balls it is really hard to teach basic batting skills to new players. We will use this equipment every day during season for practice, but I also run clinics after school for any student who wants to learn the sport on the off season. This equipment will be used for any and all students who want to try baseball and have never had a chance to before now.
This equipment will help the interest in baseball grow.
It will allow me to set up stations in clinics and make sure players can have a glove when they need one to learn how to play the sport. I have learned that through sports students learn to love learning and that can be translated back into the classroom. When they struggle to learn a skill and then master it, it shows them that they may struggle with an academic concept yet still master it if they just keep practicing it.
