it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I want my struggling writers to realize that the power of words combined with their wonderful imaginations can create beautiful, weird, hilarious, awesome stories!
My students live in an urban, low-income city comprised largely of immigrant families.
Many of my students speak a language other than English at home. Despite the challenges that they face, the students in my school are consistently eager to learn and enthusiastic about new and exciting learning opportunities.
One exception, however, is with my struggling writers. The fourth grade students in my classroom represent a range of reading and writing abilities, and many are reading and writing significantly below grade level. By fourth grade, many of these struggling writers become frustrated and less motivated to write. Sometimes they have a great idea but lack the language and the stamina to write about it, but very often I have students who struggle just to come up with that spark of an idea to write about. I need to motivate these students to use their imaginations and push themselves outside their comfort zones to get writing!
My Project
The LEGO Education StoryStarter classroom pack that I am requesting will be used by my students in a writing center to help them develop their creative storytelling skills, which are critical skills needed for creative writing.
The StoryStarter pack that I am requesting comes with LEGO bricks, StoryVisualizer software, and a curriculum pack with 24 storytelling lessons/activities. My students will use these materials to literally build their stories! By creating tangible models of characters and settings, they will have concrete objects to support their creative storytelling, which they can then turn into written stories. The StoryVisualizer software will allow students to take pictures and record their creations to add to their writing.
The LEGO StoryStarter classroom pack and expansion packs will bridge creative play with creative writing, a push my struggling writers need!
I need to motivate and engage my struggling writers during this critical time in their development.
With the LEGO StoryStarter kit, I can combine my students' writing practice with imaginative play and technology, giving my struggling writers opportunities to be successful and gain confidence as writers. Our classroom writing will be so awesome!
