My Students

I am happily astonished at the love and dedication that our students have for band at such a young age. We want them to have fun and develop a life-long love of music!

We are an inner-city district with a mix of students from all over the city.

The students are very musical, some are members of Band, Orchestra, AND Chorus. The band students are in grades 4-6, which some would say is young for beginners but their work ethic is off the charts!

My Project

As beautiful as classic band pieces are, and the students love to play them, an elementary band should have one song per concert that is popular! I happen to love Disney, and what is a better winter concert song in Syracuse than a piece from Frozen? For the spring we can play "The Fox," and if you have never heard it you may have been living under a rock for the past year. It was a youtube sensation and the students will LOVE playing it!

What I want is for them to leave the concert and say that they love band, and having new and fun music goes a long way!

Students will be excited about rehearsal, they will want to practice, they will be excited about playing in the concert, and they will be proud of their ensemble. Best of all, these songs will be easy enough for elementary band students to be successful, which is all a teacher really wants at the end of the day.
