My students need additional resources (Common Core Math 4 today grades 4 and 5, and Storyworks) to prepare for the Common Core Student assessments in Math and Reading.
My favorite quote is, "Fair is not everyone getting the same thing, it's everyone getting what they need". My students realize that by the end of the year (or sooner) I am there to facilitate what each of them needs, not just teach one lesson to them all.
My class is full of fun and energetic kids.
Our school is diverse in cultures and learning styles and needs. By the end of the year I am hoping that my students will be confident and prepared to take these tests. Our school district is full of supportive parents, which is hugely helpful in teaching our students.
My Project
I will use these as needed for some or all my students in areas that they are struggling with or needs additional/enrichment resources for common core learning. I will evaluate what skills each child needs and then use the appropriate Math and Reading books to give them fun and educational practice. These resources will allow me to differentiate my instruction and provide common types of questions but at age and grade levels that are appropriate and encouraging to the children to alleviate anxiety about the tests. The math books will allow daily practice with testing type questions and the reading will allow engaging and motivating stories with testing questions.
I believe this project will be a better, more motivating way to educate and assist my students.
I will be able to also share this with my fellow colleagues and hopefully help their students too.
