My classroom is an intensive intervention classroom that serves students who need to have most of their academic instruction in a separate setting.
I have a range of exceptionalities in my classroom! I have students with Autism that have sensitivity to sensory input, and I also have students with multiple disorders that need help focusing on their teacher directed activities. I have 4 boys and 4 girls in my class this year! My class is full of amazing kids with an appetite for learning! We focus on everyone doing their personal best, and celebrating every achievement! Our school is a K-4 elementary school in the mountains of North Carolina! We have an amazing staff of Exceptional Children's teachers, and regular education teachers! My students attend inclusion in their regular education classrooms, as well as, specialized instruction in my room! We have an amazing school family that do their best to make our school open and welcoming to all students!
My Project
My students are ready to learn, but sometimes the classroom environment can get in their way! Using light shades will create a calming effect in our classroom, and dim the fluorescent lights that can be very overpowering. My students have sensory sensitivities to light and sound and adding these to our room will help decrease that sensory input. Wobble stools force the students to engage their core and sit up straight. Often students come to school tired or distracted by outside stimuli. Engaging their core forces them to be more aware of their body and focus on instruction. The wobble stools also move when you sit on them and are really great for my "wiggle worms" that need to move even while sitting!
My classroom is an amazing place to be, but I am always striving to improve the environment for my students!
