Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students come into my classroom each day asking, "What are we going to make today?" The answer to this question depends greatly on the materials that we have available. I'd love for my students to be able to make and create with a variety of resources and mediums.
My students are 4th, 5th, and 6th graders in a farming community in Arizona.
Many come from homes that are struggling to make ends meet due to the seasonal work that is most common in this area. Students come to school excited to learn, interact, grow, and create. They work hard, try their best, work cooperatively, and inspire others daily. Our school is a reflection of these students. We are a close knit community that encourages each of our students to become the very best that they can be.
My Project
The paper for painting and drawing, colored pencils, erasers, chalk, pastels, a heavy duty pencil sharpener, and other materials will be used by over 300 students to explore their creativity and create art work. By having these supplies available, students will be able to learn about different mediums and explore them. We will be using these supplies to explore color, shape, texture, form, line, space, and value as we create works of art.
Students who participate in creative endeavors are shown to have more academic success.
Art enriches children's lives by giving them access to the world around them. I hope that by using these materials to create, my students will find a hidden talent, a new passion, and an outlet for creativity that they might not have known otherwise.
