Mrs. Calhoun from Austell GA is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need 3D filament, Mod Podge, blank books, color paper, paper mache, velcro, glue guns, mythology costumes and books like Percy Jackson, a tripod, and a Flip Camera.

"Empowering Students Through Art" provides meaningful learning experiences that require students to be active participants in the acquisition of new knowledge. My students are excited to learn more about humanities and arts!
I teach at a Title I school where English is a second language for many students.
My students face adversity such as coming from single-parent families and attending multiple schools during their elementary years. Over two-thirds of our students participate in the free and reduced-priced lunch program.
This project will focus on learning more about reading about Greek Mythology and using different learning styles to express students' learning. My students will retell myths and apply meaning using these materials including the color paper and cardstock, mod podge, paper mache kits, costumes, Flip Camera, to aid understanding through the use of Art and hands-on activities. Engagement relies on learning that appeals to diverse modalities. By empowering students through art, students will choose how they can express their understanding of mythology. For example, the novels The Percy Jackson, Goddess Girls and Heros In Training will be used as novel studies to appeal to the modalities of my audio and visual learners. Students will then get to chose to create an item that represents a mythical character using the 3D printer filament or paper mache kits such as a Cyclops, Pandora's box or Achilles heel. Students may chose to write a play, perform, and record it using the Flip Camera.
Donations from this project will help my Fourth grade students to develop an awareness for elements of writing, storytelling, creating, and the Arts.
Eventually students will be able to organize and produce their own myths. They will recognize how myths were utilized in ancient Greece and to understand and enjoy an ancient past-time. By empowering students through Art, they will make connections to the past, present and future.
