Using art and technology in the Social Studies classroom may seem crazy, but my students love every minute of it! This project teaches students about the effects of the New Deal and the importance of economics.
The students at our junior high school are from a very rural background.
Most are from poverty level homes. These students have little access to technology and art supplies outside of the classroom. School provides a time when students with all ability levels can share their creativity together.
My Project
This project will teach students about an often forgotten time in history after the Great Depression. Students will learn about the economics of the time period and about specific new deal programs like the Civilian Conservation Corp. Using technology, students will research about specific parts of the New Deal and display their findings on project boards. I have requested project boards, markers, glue, paint, and brushes. These art supplies will be used by the students to creatively display their research. I have also requested a jeopardy-like buzzer system and batteries. This buzzer game will be used in the classroom to quiz students in a fun, exciting way. Both the art supplies and the buzzer system will bring art and technology into the Social Studies classroom to be used by students with all ability levels.
This project is important because many of the economic concepts from the 1930s are relevant today.
Our students will be able to creatively use art to share their learning about economics and our state.
