My Students

A typical day in our classroom is students engaged in multisensory experiences: exploring, discovering, investigating, calculating, analyzing, presenting, discussing, reading and writing. My primary goals for my students is to further develop skills in literacy, writing, mathematics and science.

We are a diverse culturally, social-economical, urban second grade class of Regular Education, English Language Learners, and Inclusion Students with Special Needs.

My students learn best with hands-on instruction with concrete experiences using objects, artifacts, photographs, technology, literature, visual images, and scaffolding models to support their learning. My biggest challenge is providing students with enough developmentally appropriate materials for them to express their ideas, to show understanding of concepts and mastery of standards taught. We are using our unit of study, "Architecture Around the World" as a vehicle to inspire students interests. We hope to foster global environmental awareness and appreciation of cultural diversity. "It is not the beauty of a building you should look at; its the construction of the foundation that will stand the test of time." I hope to better prepare students for a 21st century world that they may enter with great confidence.

My Project

Students will be able to using building materials and books to serve as visual inspiration and expression of ideas to help stimulate writing and visual arts skills. Children will read about architecture styles, gardens and building materials found around the world. They will be introduced to images through Power Point presentations traditional and modern architecture topics. Students will learn concepts of sustainability and conservation. They will create drawings, paintings, and models. They will learn concepts of measurement, scientific process skills, and the vocabulary of architecture. Children will learn to identify architecture elements and materials found in their local environs and those in other regions of the world. They learn to further develop oral language, presentation, reading, narrative and descriptive writing skills.

This project will make a difference in student's lives by developing, environmentally sensitivity and an awareness of their own cultural heritages and those of others through multicultural learning experiences.

A donation of these materials will provide some of the necessary resources needed for high quality multisensory instruction to better meet the needs of all students' learning styles and academic needs.
