"Technology is just a tool. In terms of getting the kids working together and motivating them, the teacher is most important." -Bill Gates
I look forward to each school year and enjoy preparing my students for high school and beyond through the use of interactive and digital media.
My middle school is located in an urban district where resources and technology can be limited.
These students come from all walks of life and about half are low income. My classroom is composed of students with learning disabilities, behavior disorders, speech and language delays, English Language Learners, and Gifted and Talented students. Although their backgrounds are diverse, I want to give my sixth graders an opportunity to engage in the curriculum through audio and visual technology.
My Project
Teaching social studies to sixth graders can be challenging to say the least, but with technology on my side I will be unstoppable. Students in my classroom can engage in curriculum beyond the textbook using the media cart with Ipevo document camera and Epson data projector. The educational videos on ancient civilizations, like the Mayans, and virtual tours of distant locations, like the Pyramids of Giza, can provide my class with a deeper understanding of material. In addition, displaying fragile artifacts and replicas and enlarged detailed maps of historical periods, like Roman expansion, in color will ensure students sit up and pay attention in class.
This presentation cart with document camera and data projector will level the playing field for many students who never have the opportunity to effectively use technology.
Now all students can experience ancient civilizations from their very own desks.
