This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine this: A teacher tells the students they are going to write essays about the ocean ecosystem for their blogs. "Take out your iPads," says the teacher. The students reach into their desk to get their iPads and wireless keyboards. How cool is that?

My fourth graders live in a working class and immigrant neighborhood.

Most of them are learning English as a second language, some have special needs, and all of them love to learn. Our Title I school is an important safe haven for my kids, who are surrounded by poverty and gang activity.

My Project

Currently we have one iPad and several laptops in our classroom. My students use our computers frequently to take online reading comprehension quizzes, write in their blogs, and do research on the Internet. They also use the iPad in particular for recording interviews for the school newspaper they produce once month. If we had another iPad, there wouldn't be such a strain on technological resources. The addition of a wireless keyboard will make blogging really easy. Also, we can add educational apps for those times when my kids are working independently. What would be better than a second iPad? One iPad for each student! Until then, we are going to build our collection one iPad at a time. We are asking for an Apple iPad, smart cover, dock, and wireless keyboard.

My 21st century learners can't get enough technology in the classroom.
