My Students

2nd graders are so excited by science!! They love measuring, estimating, exploring, problem solving, and figuring things out. One of our goals is to learn how to measure different aspects of weather such as temperature, wind speed, and barometric pressure. We need the tools to do this!!

My students are between the ages of six and nine.

They attend an arts-integrated charter school. Our school is an amazing blend of creative energy, state standards, and tons of potential. My students learn by doing! They are hands-on, and love being challenged to figure things out. At out school, we don't have a lot of resources, especially when it comes to purchasing supplies. However we are very resourceful, and can usually come up with a way to bypass not having the right tools or materials. Some things, however, just can't be done without the appropriate technology. We need a real wireless weather station to accurately measure the outdoor conditions, this along with our classroom thermometers, will help us meet our science standards and improve our learning potential.

My Project

With the appropriate weather measuring tools my students will be able to take measurements and check them to their estimates. They will be able to make predictions and compare patterns, they will learn how to use new tools. My students' lives will be richer with these simple instruments. They will have a newly found excitement for science in their lives!!

I believe that this project will impact my students on a deep level.

They will feel empowered to use new tools and materials, and feel confident in their understanding of science. I strongly believe that building a love for science at an early age will encourage creative and critical thinking skills for the rest of their lives.
