Help me give my students a clean safe way to refill their own water bottles at school. No more sugary drinks, no more one-use-BPA-laden plastic water bottles!
We are a large high school that has 5 different buildings each are three stories with a lot of stairs which makes us all very thirsty. We have an active Environmental Club that works hard to educate others about using plastics responsibly, about our global water supplies and how to protect our shared planet. We work in collaboration with the City's Park Department to prepare land to be turned into a City Park by removing invasive plant species, garbage, graffiti, creating and widening trails...all of which makes us very thirsty!
We would love to have water bottle refill stations across our large campus so that we not promoting the purchasing of one-time use, BPA infused, plastic water bottles.
Students will pass on their knowledge by teaching other students and the community about the importance of practicing conservation and preservation.
Your act of kindness will help keep my students lit on fire and motivated to do whatever they can to make this a healthier school for all!
My Project
We are trying to encourage pro-environmental behavior on our campus and we believe that by installing Water Bottle Refill Stations our students will be contributing to the positive environmental, health and economic impact of our entire campus.
We are working on installing four water bottle filling stations at Marysville Getchell high school, one in each high school building on our large campus.
If our 1,700+ students each had their own refillable water bottle, they could fill up those water bottles throughout the day. They also could drink from their water bottles during class, reducing the need to be out of the classroom during academic time.
We want to encourage our students to drink water, not sugary drinks. Greater access to clean, quickly attainable water (students only have a 5 minute passing time between classes), will help our school community not only drink more water, thus encouraging a healthier immune system, it will help them rethink the importance of water, the most essential resource to mankind.
Plastic waste is one of the most critical environmental issues we are facing today. If we can deter students from using disposable-one-time-use, thin, BPA laden, plastic water bottles, we would be greatly reducing the global CO2 emissions occurring during manufacturing and disposal of the bottles, meaning that we can contribute to the reduction of our carbon footprint thus encouraging pro-environmental behaviors.
We believe that water bottle filling stations can change the habits of our students by providing quick and easy refill options. By providing water bottle refill stations, we are choosing to try to solve an environmental problem on our campus by being part of the solution.
