My goal for 2015-2016 lies with learning more about technology integration involving an ActivSlate device. Having one would allow me to offer hands-on lessons with my students. This effective device would work in conjunction with my Promethean Board and could create powerful interactive lessons.
I am currently a second grade teacher and have been for many years.
I also taught Special Education during my first years at this particular school. I teach at a prekindergarten through fifth grade school in which parental support is a huge factor. Our school has more than 500 students at this time. My students are eager to learn, and I truly enjoy having each one in my classroom. With my ongoing technology journey, I am always looking for powerful tools for my classroom. My students are eager to learn and embrace technology with open arms. This year, I'd love to incorporate an ActivSlate with my Promethean Board for more engaging lessons.
My Project
First of all, you may want the answer to the question, what is an ActivSlate? It is a wireless tablet that offers the same interactive function as a Promethean Board but has the advantage of freedom of movement. I know I would need to learn more about this tool to begin this journey. I do have a Promethean Board, but could use an Activslate 60 tablet to seamlessly integrate lessons with ActivInspire, the hub and charger, for great lessons. In speaking with others and researching this device, I can see the potential in helping students with it. Their site states, "ActivSlate makes dynamic, interactive classroom experiences everyday occurrences by giving anyone who wishes to participate control of the ActivBoard from anywhere in the ActivClassroom. A wireless, fully integrated, notebook-sized tablet, ActivSlate uses the same ActivPens as the ActivBoard, is small enough to sit on a student desk, and is light enough to be carried into any discussion."
Conrad Hall stated, "You are always a student, never a master.
You have to keep moving forward." There is so much truth to that statement! At this point, I am ready to move forward and learn more about ActivSlates along with my students. I've read powerful reviews about them. Technology is crucial at our school. My plan is to bring more interactivity to my students through this ActivSlate and accessories. Would you consider funding this technology project for my wonderful second graders?
