As a Kindergarten teacher, I often think in terms of nursery rhymes. In my mind I hear, "A tisket, a tasket, could you drop a laptop in my basket?" As a teacher who loves learning about technology and computer upgrades, I'd love the opportunity to learn about Windows 8 computers, if you could help!
Teaching is something that runs deep in my family.
My mom and godmother both taught at the same school I am now. My sister teaches at a nearby school as well. We all have a great love of teaching and our community. At this time I am a Kindergarten teacher at a Pre K-5th grade school. My hometown is known to be a close area that works together for our students. Parental support is a definite priority in our area. Our local school has around 550 students. I have a fun loving class who embraces learning! Our school is one in the district who strives for technology resources in our classroom. However, we don't have many Windows 8 computers. I have a personal goal to learn how to work with a Windows 8 laptop. I would love to have one to use with my eager students eventually. To do this, I need to back step a bit and be the student once again. I am more than willing to do that because, in the long run, I know that not only I will benefit from this, but my students will too.
My Project
Windows 8 computers are rare sights at our school. I met with our school tech person about gaining one with this grant. She encouraged me to try. Together, she and I set up a plan of action for Professional Development. It would include meeting 1 to 1 to guide me in learning more about Windows 8 computers. The lesson plan for my personal journey would mean meeting for 3 meetings to help me understand Windows 8 better & how to implement it later on. In addition to that, my mentor gathered professional development articles & tutorials to aid my journey with effective academic uses of a windows 8. Windows 8 is a different format, so I know I have a lot to learn. Through the use of the requested laptop, I will be guided on my learning path. Our plan includes striving for 2 goals. Goal 1 includes Windows 8 hands-on lessons for me to learn more, while the next goal lies with me guiding students later on. Before I get to goal 2 though, I have to become a student & learn about Windows 8.
A tisket, a tasket, could you drop a Windows 8 Dell Laptop (and mouse) in my basket?
Together we have an opportunity that would enable me as a teacher, to learn more about the powerful use of Windows 8 computers in academic settings. It is time, for me to step back and become involved as a student again. With the help of my tech leader guiding me & your funding, I will strive to become a better educator. Any help for my personal Professional Development journey would be appreciated!
