Ms. Brooks-Whitfield from Cordova TN is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a class digital camera to use when they are creating stories, documenting projects and creating books, class quilts and videoing class plays.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Have you ever watched a child's eyes light up when they see a picture of themselves or something they created? How about the excitement in their face when they are allowed to take a picture with the grown up camera?
My students are a group of energetic kindergartners from a low income area.
More than 98% of the students in my school are on free or reduced lunch. My students love any and everything that has to do with technology. They are always eager to try new things.
By using a digital camera, my kindergartners will be able to be their own photographers and videographers. It will allow them create original writings based on the picture that they've taken. They will be able to create original stories, while using themselves and their friends as the characters. All of those great cooking activities, classroom plays, and projects can be captured to share with others. They will be able to see something that captures their eye and photograph it so they can write about it in their journals. A digital camera will help them to look for everyday uniqueness and see things that they wouldn't normally notice.
I want my kindergartners to continue to experience the excitement of capturing the world around them.
I have watched past classes enjoy the use of the digital camera that I purchased for my class 8 years ago. This class has not been able to fully experience it because the digital camera that I have always used isn't taking good pictures anymore because it's out of date and the flash is broken. This has kept us from using it this year like we have in the past.
