Research shows that "most students lose about two months of grade level equivalency in mathematical computation skills during the summer months. Low-income students lose more than two months in reading achievement, despite the fact that their middle-class peers make slight gains." (Cooper, 1996).
Our school is a Title 1 school in Michigan where over 40% of the population is low income.
My colleagues and I have the privilege as the Special Education teacher, Response to Intervention Coordinator, and Title I Intervention teacher, to work with students in grades K-5 each day. Our students work with us in small groups and we also work within the classroom to provide extra support to these wonderful hard working students.
The school year will be over before we know it, and these students will no longer have this additional support during the summer months. Providing valuable learning resources is imperative to minimize what researchers/educators often refer to as "Summer Slide."

My Project
Providing parents/students with materials that are stimulating and require very little planning is vital to encouraging families to continue learning over the summer months.
Please help us to provide a wonderful resource to these hard working students and their families.
We are asking for Brain Quest workbooks for our students. These full color workbooks are amazing, highly rated, all-in-on- workbooks with Math, Reading, Writing, Social Studies and Science activities that make learning fun, and keep students engaged. We would love to be able to provide each and everyone of our students with one of these books for the summer. The variety of activities within these books offer a valuable learning tool to minimize "Summer Slide."
Please help my colleagues and I put a smile on all our students beautiful young faces, as we deliver to them their brand new Brain Quest workbook for summer learning.
