A Place for Everyone

My students need designated spaces for individual and group work. The rug I am requesting has color coded spaces for students to have their own learning space.

My Students

I need my students to be engaged in learning and be healthy in body and mind. I want them to know they " EACH HAVE THEIR OWN PLACE IN THE WORLD" Movement can be an effective strategy to: strengthen learning improve memory/retrieval enhance motivation and morale. This rug will help lead to my goal!

I teach 22 wonderful children who are as culturally diverse as learning diverse.

My students come to me with varying learning, social and emotional needs. They also need to know how much I care for them when it comes to making sure they have enough food to eat, the appropriate clothing for the weather, instruction at their learning level and a sprinkle of fun added to their day. I need to provide motivation, movement, instruction so my students are excited to learn and get along with others. My school is an IB, which has a very limited budget to address the varying resources that are prove to enhance instruction and learning. As a staff we work hard at increasing student achievement while decreasing the achievement gap.

My Project

Energy! Nothing captures a child's attention like movement and sound. The space and color code on this rug will allow me to do both and keep the activity level high. I often bring the the kids close to me during instruction and this rug will provide a learning space for each student. Interaction! It is important for my students to wonder why, explain their thinking, and listen to others. The color coded rug will provide spaces for group interactions. The kids enjoy learning from each other. The space the rug provides will be used for community building activities during the day to inject action, energize the group and for transitions to another activity. When I am modeling or demonstrating with one group, I am able to ask a question or involve someone from another group working on the rug. The rug will be used as a space to engage, move, teach, learn, build community, while keeping intact our classroom community. I am looking forward to having this space for my students.

This rug I am asking for will provided my students a "place".

A place to stay engaged, a place to interact, a place for movement, a place for inquiry to happen, a place for meeting, a place for listening, a place for belonging, a place for teamwork, a place for learning about each other. By having a place for all my students, student achievement will occur in my classroom. Everyone has a place in my classroom to help them learn about their place in the world!
