My first graders are eager and energetic students and having a colorful, organized carpet area will help us build a community and make carpet learning time more effective.
We are in a public school in Braham, Minnesota.
Many of our students are socioeconomically disadvantaged and approximately 50% of the students at our school qualify for free or reduced lunch. These students deserve a comfortable, fun, and engaging environment to learn!
My Project
Imagine a classroom of 24, busy, first graders. All are seated on the floor in their invisible assigned spots during a whole group lesson. Within minutes, squirminess sets in and the children begin to shift. "Stop touching me!" "You are in my spot." I eventually need to stop my lesson to redirect my students back to their original spots. This is a common occurrence in my classroom. Even during my most engaging lessons, I lose momentum when I need to stop to redirect a child. I also lose valuable time at the beginning of each lesson while I wait until everyone is in the correct spot. If there was only a way to solve this problem....hmmmm.....oh wait, there is! There is a colorful rug with 30 squares. Each child has a special spot in a specific color row and it reduced the time needed to assist students with their assigned spots. What a great classroom management tool!
A classroom rug is something that can be used for many, many years.
It would not only serve as a great classroom management tool, but it would make my classroom more warm an inviting. Thank you for considering my classroom for this generous donation.
