My students need 2 iPod Touches for our listening center. These iPods will help us build read our reading fluency and give us access to texts we can't read independently.
Why do we read? My 23 first-grade friends and I read because (1) it's fun and (2) it helps us become better readers and writers. Each morning we spend 90 minutes engaged in a literacy block together with these goals in mind. My students love to read and listening center is our favorite rotation.
I am a second-year teacher with 23 amazing first-grade friends.
We are so curious and excited about learning. We love hugging, singing, reading silly books, and learning with friends. My 1st graders believe in the goodness of others and magic. For them, listening center is magic. Accordingly, it's their favorite reading center. At this rotation students may pick up ANY book and be able to listen and follow along. My friends feel successful and receive an awesome reading model.
My Project
Using an iPod as a listening center we don't have to worry about scratching Cd's or feeding our CD player new batteries every Friday. We can store countless numbers of books that are available with a simple touch of the screen! These iPods touches will also be perfect for recording our own voices as we begin assessing fluency.
Donating 2 iPod Touches to our classroom will help us meet the two goals of our literacy center - to have fun and to become better readers.
Building fluency and reading above-level texts, these iPod touches will allow us to stretch ourselves as readers!
