My students need an assortment of books to expand their knowledge and understanding of nonfiction topics that fuel their curiosity for the world they live in.
Help my 3rd graders develop a greater understanding of science, social studies and technology while they prepare themselves to be the future literate citizens of our society.
My students are 3rd graders in a Title 1 public school.
For most of them, English is a second language. Over 85% of my students also receive free or reduced lunch and therefore come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Seven of my students are identified as students with special needs. Despite all of this, they are an amazing bunch of youngsters who would light up your day with their curiosity and excitement for learning.
My Project
In order to reach the literacy goals for my students this year, we need more books. Specifically, we need more nonfiction books that are sorely lacking in the classroom library. My students need high-interest real world books that will capture their attention and motivate them to find the answers to their many questions. By allowing their interests to motivate them, I will be able to teach them the reading strategies they will need to become best readers they can be.
As an educator, I take my role very seriously.
Because of this, I know that my students will be the next generation of literate, free-thinking members of our society. They will help solve some of the very problems that plague our world today and make things better for future generations.
