“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” — Hellen Keller.
Togetherness and belonging are so important to our Kindergarten classroom community. Each and every day, we gather on the rug for our morning meeting. On this rug, we greet each other and ready ourselves to begin a new day.
We are a Spanish Dual Language classroom with children from all walks of life.
One of our favorite activities is to gather together on the rug as a class and cozy up with a story time book. Imagine eager eyes looking up, hanging on to your every word as you read aloud. Moments like this happen every day on our classroom rug.
My Kindergarteners are eager and energetic students, and having a colorful, organized carpet area will help us build community and make carpet learning time more effective. My students need a new classroom rug so we can gather together as a community and make carpet time more welcoming and organized. Help us build a caring classroom community and enhance learning!
My Project
What is it about a colorful carpet that can transform a sterile classroom into a warm and inviting place to learn? The perfect carpet becomes a focal point for a classroom and a comfy place for students to gather for instruction. This rug is more than just a simple seating chart, it is the center of our Kindergarten universe. The time we spend together on the rug is invaluable. On it we learn together, read together, share together, talk together, and laugh together.
This new carpet will have a lasting impact throughout the school year and in years to come!
The first two questions a student asks themselves on the first day of school are: ‘Am I in the right room?’ and ‘Where am I supposed to sit?’ A new Lakeshore ‘A Place for Everyone Classroom Carpet’ will ensure that each and every student has a place to sit and be a member of a community of learners.
