Our sixth grade classroom has somewhat of a different feel than most. The good news is that it is quite big, but it does house 35-55 students and at lest 4 staff at any given time. The energy is always high as the learning potential seems endless.
Our sixth graders have a love for life and learning.
At their age, they like to keep the energy high and feed off of each other. They like to read, write, discuss, and compete, all important in our learning environment. However, they also are easily distracted in social endeavors. So, any structure we can provide to keep students focused and engaged in learning tasks will result in additional academic success.
My Project
Free reading time is extremely important to being a successful students and learners. Reading everyday develops fluency and comprehension skills. It also helps develop vocabulary which is essential for understanding science, math, social studies, listening, writing, and all other academic standard areas.
These comfortable folding chairs will be used for students to have an individual, quite space to read daily. They can be moved depending on the day they are used or the students using them.
Even when students are given the time to read and have engaging texts, they can still be distracted by many factors, such as the lighting, other students around them, or a comfortable place to sit and read.
These chairs are an extremely important, effective tool to add structure to reading time for students. They will provide a place for students to engage in the essential act of reading.
