Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach a wonderful group of third graders in a low income area. Most of my students have never been outside the city they grew up in and have very little knowledge what is outside their area. They are eager to learn, but many of the children do not have computers at home and must rely on the technology in our class to learn through computers.

My classroom does not have any up to date computers. I have a projector in the classroom, but I am without a portable computer to hook it up to. It is a disadvantage to the students to be without the technology that can bring the class many learning opportunities.

Please help my class with a Netbook computer. Students will benefit from having a Netbook in the classroom by using the Netbook to hook up to the projector for interactive lessons. The Netbook will also be used to research places and things we are studying. Many students don't have the background knowledge to fully understand places and things we are learning about. With the Netbook I can show the students what things look like and where things are located. The Netbook will also provide more interactive learning for the students through web-based games, Internet research (higher order thinking), virtual tours, computer navigating, typing and word processing skills. These are all basic essential tools that students will need in the future.

Your help will ensure that my class gets every chance to be creative, successful, and intelligent young learners. I know that having a Netbook in the classroom would make a tremendous impact on their education.
