Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a small charter school that relies on parent help for many of its functions, and many of our students come from low SES homes. We want to give them as many positive experiences as possible in order to keep them interested in learning.
My students are FABULOUS!
Never have I so enjoyed coming to work in the morning! We are a spirited bunch, but eager to learn and looking for as many science experiments, field trips, and fun in-class activities as possible. We want learning to be as hands-on as it can possibly be. Our school is a very small charter school that is run as a parent cooperative. Instead of janitors, we have parents. Many of the staff members are parents or parents of former students. On any given day, there are usually a few parents helping out in the office. However, because we like to keep our school small and our student to teacher ratio high, we don't have a much funding. That is where teachers come in! Teachers are 100% responsible for planning, fundraising, and implementing as many field trips throughout the year as possible!
My Project
The bus we are requesting will transport us to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, where we already have a reservation. Unfortunately, this is too far a distance to rely on parents to drive, and without the bus, we will have to cancel the reservation. The students are REALLY looking forward to the trip, so their teacher is trying her very best to get transportation.
This project will give students who wouldn't normally have the opportunity to go to this magnificent aquarium the opportunity to do so.
This trip will open students' eyes to what is in Earth's water biomes, as well as provide them with new ideas for what they would like to be when they grow up. Most of my students don't leave Richmond much, so seeing a different part of California will be eye-opening for them as well.
