My students need a comfortable organized environment in which to learn. The camera is to document and record class activities.The printer is for my students' convenience. They also need cubbies, a globe, posters, folders, binders and other supplies.
As a second year teacher there are so many things the classroom needs! I was teacher of the year at my school last year, comfort in the classroom and a secure classroom community is key to that. My goal is to create an organized convenient class that students want to attend.
My school is in a low to middle socioeconomic standing with a good mix of diversity.
We are also in one of the largest districts in the state. I teach all eighth grade US History and in that age group its hard to keep kids interested. With a classroom kids want to visit each day it makes my job easier and also helps facilitate learning on a deeper level. Keys to making that happen are convenience, organization, comfort, respect, and content knowledge. As a newer teacher I am building my classroom from the ground up and just don't have the things I need yet, but from year to year and by gathering equipment we will get there.
My Project
The camera, for example, will be used to document classroom activities for an end of year slideshow the school will see. Students will get to use it and take pictures when prompted. The printer is a personal one for our class, I cannot always run and print stuff if we are short a couple pages, or if a student needs late work, it would make life much easier in my classroom. The cubby will help me to organize my class, I have very little organizational tools in my class, the stuff I do have is broken. The other items I'm asking for will help with organization and grading and are things my school was low on last year. The posters and maps are to facilitate learning and interest. The magnetic globe for my desk will help grab kids interest and get them hanging around my desk more which also helps create a working teacher, student relationship.
As mentioned before, as a second year teacher I need all the help I can get.
My room is lacking in organization and equipment and this list is designed to change that. Classroom community is vital to student success and with a subject that kids usually don't like it's even more important. My list will help to create the classroom community and comfort I am looking for.
