This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My capstone project in college involved me staying up until the wee hours of the morning making paper dolls. I was allowed to express my learning in a creative way. My students, doodlers, and artists, are eager for a way to express their own learning in a way that makes them feel successful.
Our school is a colorful quilt of nationalities, talents, and creativity.
Living in a vibrant neighborhood in Brooklyn allows the students to be exposed to so many ideas. My students need to reflect on what their diverse school has taught them before they move on to high school.
My Project
I'm excited to have my students create a visual reflection of their 3 years in middle school. Essentially, my teacher team and I would like to give our students an opportunity to create a scrapbook reflecting their learning as scholars and citizens of this world. Not all of our students feel represented in the yearbook, so this capstone project would give them the chance to create their own way to remember their time. My students need paper, scissors, and glue to create their capstone project detailing the big ideas they have encountered in middle school.
We're coming to the end of the school year and I teach eighth grade.
My students will be going to different high schools next year. They need an opportunity to reflect on their 3 years in middle school, both socially and academically.
