Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In our classroom students are taught as if they are apprentice writers. They not only write and edit their texts, they also illustrate, title, and produce their own cover art. This makes each of their final products a work of art that instills in them a sense of pride and work ethic.

My students are from an inner city middle school.

They come to us from homes with limited literacy and high poverty. As seventh graders many are reading at the third and fourth grade level. They do not see writing as something that they can be successful at. They are sweet, compassionate and willing to take on the challenges of their lives both at school and at home.

My Project

My students work on writing and editing their texts from day one. The laminating materials and card stock will allow students to produce a cover for the work so that they may take pride in sharing their final/illustrated product with their peers and family.

These resources will be used to make covers for our final writing projects.

The ability to produce a bound final product will help to instill a sense of pride in my students. It will inspire my students to place a higher value on their written work. This pride is the cornerstone for building a strong work ethic in their futures.
