Books! Bins to organize! My class is in need of books and bins to organize those books. In addition, a good working pencil sharpener is needed so that students can write about their reading and write their own stories.
My class is comprised of 29 fifth grade students from diverse cultural backgrounds who attend an urban Math/Science/Technology Magnet elementary school.
Approximately 70% of the school population have been identified as disadvantaged or "Title 1." The students have a varied range in reading and writing abilities.
My Project
A growing library will always benefit students to become avid readers and to develop a LOVE of reading. To aid in the selection of books, bins are necessary. Books will be organized by either reading level OR genres/topics of interests (Eg: fictional series like American Chillers). This organization will allow students to select their books for Partnership/Literature Circle work OR for independent reading. Through reading, students will develop comprehension skills, expand vocabulary, and develop collaboration skills. A pencil sharpener will allow my students to have sharpened pencils to use for their writing in Writer's Workshop and to write about their reading.
Students will LOVE to have a growing library that is organized in bins by different reading levels or genres/topics including fictional series like American Chillers.
The books will hone their skills in comprehension, vocabulary, writing, reading in different genres, and collaboration. In addition this will promote a LOVE of reading and writing. Through your generous donations, this can be a reality for my classroom of students for years to come.
