Do you remember learning about history through an old, dated textbook? Luckily, for today's students, there are a large range of resources available to them through the internet. Our students can not only learn about the Oregon Trail, but they can have access to the Oregon Trail game!
I have a class of 32 fourth graders who love learning.
They are a great group of students who love working together on projects. I am so impressed that They come to school ready to learn every day! I would love to encourage this drive to learn through incorporating technology into their social studies curriculum! Students will no longer need to rely on old textbooks for social studies, they will be able to access games and information about the topics we are studying. To help give my students a historical perspective, it helps to get them up-to-date on what's going on in today's world. Scholastic News has relevant articles, with colorful pictures, written for fourth graders to comprehend and relate to.
My Project
Teaching Oregon history is a perk of teaching fourth grade! We currently use a textbook which is over a decade old, which still contains a lot of great and useful information. We could really spice up this old textbook, with some modern technology. iPad minis would allow us to do research on historical and recent events. Having access to iPads in class will allow my students to work in small groups on designated projects and projects of choice. Scholastic News is another way in which my students will gain a greater understanding of the world around them. These weekly newspapers are filled with articles and activities that help build awareness and non-fiction reading skills. In addition to the paper copies, students will have access to online activities to extend what we have read and discussed as a group.
Technology has become an integral part of our everyday lives.
By providing iPad minis to my class, My students will be better equipped to use technology as a natural part of doing research. These research skills are an essential part of students succeeding in higher education, and becoming lifelong learners. Scholastic News is full of rich information and pictures that students will look forward to reading each week. Help our class have a better perspective on history and the world around them!
